STEP 1 OF 6 Reference Baseline & Isometric Axes
Draw horizontal baseline. Mark lowest front corner O. Draw 30° left axis, 30° right axis, and vertical 90° axis.
💡 Rule: Isometric axes are inclined at 120° to each other (30° to horizontal).

📐 Isometric Drawing Exam Cheat-Sheet

⚠️ Exam Distinction:
• Isometric Drawing: Drawn using TRUE SCALE (1:1) directly with a regular millimeter ruler. (Standard for university exams unless specified).
• Isometric Projection: Drawn using ISOMETRIC SCALE where Isometric Length = $\sqrt{2/3} \approx 0.816 \times \text{True Length}$.
Concept / Rule How to Execute in Exam Common Exam Trap
Isometric Axes 3 axes meeting at origin: 30° to right, 30° to left, and 90° vertical. Drawing angles at 45° or 60° instead of 30° to horizontal.
Box Method Draw the full $L \times W \times H$ box first in very faint 2H pencil lines. Drawing features directly in dark pencil without enclosing box, causing distortion.
Non-Isometric Lines Never measure lengths directly along slanted faces. Mark endpoints along box edges and join them. Trying to measure the slanted hypotenuse with a scale directly.
Circles in Isometric Appears as an ellipse. Construct using the standard Four-Center Method inside an isometric rhombus. Drawing a compass circle directly without the four-center construction.
Hidden Lines Omit hidden lines unless the exam question explicitly asks for them. Cluttering isometric drawing with dashed lines.

6-Step Exam Workflow:

  1. Draw horizontal reference line $X-X$ and mark origin $O$ for lowest corner.
  2. Set up 30° left, 30° right, and vertical axes using a $30^\circ-60^\circ$ set-square.
  3. Measure $L, W, H$ along axes and complete the enclosing bounding box in faint lines.
  4. Mark step heights and block outlines along the box edges.
  5. Locate non-isometric coordinates and draw sloped faces, slots, and chamfers.
  6. Retrace all visible edges with dark HB pencil. Check against Front, Top, and Side views.
